We received lots of pictures and information from our survey.  It looks like the N55 Capella will be ours!  I am soooo excited I can't stand it!!!  What a fabulous adventure ahead of us just learning about her systems, maintenance and boat handling of such a large oceangoing vessel.  This has got to be such an exciting and wonderful experience for Scott.  He is retiring and can spend as much time as he needs to get over the "learning curve."  I am still working full-time so I have much fewer hours to read , study and practice.  We currently enjoy summers in Chicago, but this one will be our last.

We have 11 pages of needed repairs and sugested items to address. The good news is that everything is very minor. The results of the surveys were very solid. We had an electronics, mechanical, and overall systems survey. Survey included a short haul and sea trial. Alex Graham of Marine Diesel performed the mechanical survey. Brian of Celtic Marine performed the electronics survey. Jon Howe of Nautical Services Group performed the general systems survey. In addition, John Hoffman with Nordhavn Service assisted in the evaluation and short haul. I am extremely impressed by their professionalism and thoroughness. My thanks for their support.

Paula has decided to change the soft goods on the boat. She wants a different style  and to put her personal touch on the boat. Oh no!!! This includes changing the two settees, Stidd chair, curtains, bed coverings, floor rugs, and who knows what else. Destry from Destry Darr Design is helping her.  This cannot be cheap???? God knows how much money this will cost!  I hope there is enough money left to upgrade "minor" things like electronics, mechanical, , zincs, bottom paint, anchor, etc. :)
OK, so I'll miss Chicago...But our new travel experiences will definitely be worth it!

Awesome choice guys! Please speak more about the low use on this boat....I would assume that is a good thing....but like lots of things...little use causes its own type of wear and tear.

Congrats again!

Dear Eric,

We were concerned about the low hours, but the owner had meticulously run the engine monthly and took great care of Capella. We had an extensive boat, engine and electronics survey with haul-out. We ended up with an almost-like-new boat for a brokerage price!

Congratulations. Just beautiful. How about the survey costs, looks like they were substantial.

Dear Tim,

Survey costs are relatively fixed based upon engine survey, electronics survey, sea trial and haul-out. Our seller was very reasonable in what areas that needed repair that were his responsibility versus what was normal 'wear and tear' that we simply wanted to replace for future cruising plans and upgrades. Keep following our site for greater details regarding our refit. :-)

I live in St Pete Beach FL and saw Cappella in the later part of April as I was passing by it moored at its slip on Tierra Verde. My son and his family were with me and all loved the looks of this N55. I was amazed when I got home and found out it was for sale. The pictures show a boat that was practically brand new, which is both good and bad for anything with complex mechanical and electronic systems. With that being said, sounds like you guys have found a new home and are excited. I wish you the very best with your new adventures on MV Tabula Rasa.

Dear Ken,
Thank you for your kind words. I feel we purchased a beautiful boat at a reasonable price that is "like new" in condition and very low hours that has been meticulously maintained. I appreciate your comments and hope you follow us as we embark on our adventure.
Sincerely,
Paula
