Tiki Bar Reviews

Completely biased, politically-incorrect, and opinionated ratings of Tiki Bars around the world.

At this point in "Scotty's" life he has achieved professional status when it comes to judging Tiki Bars.  He is on a mission to find the  best Tiki Bars around the world.

The following ratings are based solely on Scotty's opinion, so opposing opinions will most likely be ignored!  :-)

Continuing my quest for the "Perfect Tiki Bar" in the Exuma Islands...
Cruising season 2015

Chat N Chill
SCORE 10
Georgetown, Exumas
Reviewed Spring 2015

Picture
LOCATION
This Tiki Bar is located on a private beach accross the water from Georgetown. It is small, quaint, and right on the beach. It is very famous for its beach volleyball.  Paula did water aerobics in front of Chat n Chill each morning.  To get there you just pull your dinghy onto the beach. A word to the wise, make sure you double check your tides. Paula had the tide info backwards and consequently we ended up beached and marooned after cocktail hour one evening. Fortunately, we had local Captain Evvy (who was the size of a house) save us by dragging the dinghy out to sea. Thank God. We were six hours from high tide. Oops.

Picture
SERVICE
Service was very sketchy. Sometimes OK, but mostly not so much. A guy sitting next to me (who has been going to Chat n Chill  for the last 12 years and knows every server's name) waited 2 hours for his order of ribs!!!! Wow!!! He got madder with each drink (and he had many) as the ribs were togo for his girlfriend. 2 hour wait for 1 order of ribs = Mad Girlfriend and BAD service.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Sands Light was good and cold. No Miller Lite and beer was not cheap. I cannot in good faith give this more than a 2 Beer rating.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
Same usual island drinks. No house special. A merciful 1 Rummbabba.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
A little Bizarreness going on here. Very eclectic clientele. Some having too many cocktails and beaching their dingys.

Peace and Plenty
SCORE 11

LOCATION
Located at the Peace and Plenty Hotel in Georgetown. The bar was next to the pool with a view of the water. Local stories say that Johnny Depp accepted is Golden Globe award from this bar several years ago....cool!

Picture
SERVICE
My favorite bartender was Annette who was majorly crazy (and hot) with tons of attitude. We kept running into her at other bars on multiple islands (on her days off, of course). The other bartender's name was the "Doctor of Libation". Wow, his parents were brilliant!  How could they foresee his future??? What university has a degree in alcohol? Oh, thats right... ALL of them!!! LOL  We had great service here on numerous occasions. 4 Hula Girls.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Expensive cold Sand Light. No Miller Lite. 2 Beers.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
Doctor of Libations had several "Top Secret" Rumbabbas that were very tasty and lethal as I vaguely remember.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
No Bizzareness going on here.

TT's (Two Turtles)
SCORE  5
Georgetown, Exumas
Reviewed Spring 2015

Picture
LOCATION
Located in Georgetown with no water in site, next to a dirt road, and chain link fence behind them. Need I say more? After spending a complete day there and looking through one eye I saw enough beauty to give them 1 Palm Tree. We were stuck there waiting for our guest, Rochelle's, missing luggage. We were getting nowhere with the locals at the airport until we befriended a guy at the bar. It turned out he was the local DEA agent and made a couple of calls to the airport and had our luggage delivered to TT's within the hour. Pays to know someone that knows someone in the islands!

Picture
SERVICE
Nice and personable service.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Sands Light, semi-cold, but ran out after several beers.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
They had a list of 7 specialty drinks on a large 3' board. Unfortunately, the bartenders did not know how to make any of them. True story and too funny......

Picture
BIZARRENESS
Very, very basic.

The most exciting picture of Two Turtles! (Paula is from Oklahoma)

Exuma Yacht Club

LOCATION
Let me just set everyone straight about island "Yacht Clubs". If the place has running water and serves alcohol they qualify. As to membership and gaining access... they let ME in. Need I say more???

The Tiki Bar overlooks a very small marina. Actually, all Yacht Clubs in the islands have a small marina. Not on the water and no beach here, but it did have a nice water view overlooking the harbor.

Picture
SERVICE
Fair, nothing stands out.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
They have Miller Lite and it is cold. Hence, the reason for a solid 2. But with the beer costing 4 big ones I can not go above a 2.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
Nothing special.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
Very, very basic.

LOCATION
This Tiki Bar is upscale overlooking the water, but is set back a little to far for my taste. It is a pretty setting and we celebrated St. Patty's Day in good fashion.

Picture
SERVICE
Good service and they gave us party favors so we, OK me, could make "Boobs" of ourselves as seen in the Pics.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
The beer was green and cold. Don't know about Miller Lite.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
No specialties.

LOCATION
Located half a block from Lattitudes. Basically same comments except this place is not as upscale but has more of a  "coolness factor", in my opinion.

Picture
SERVICE
Nice staff, but not very engaged.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Beer was cold and middle of the road on price. Do not know if they had Miller Lite. I was having too much fun on the swings and playing with the singing and moving breasts.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
Nothing advertised or expressed.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
Well, swings at the bar and singing breasts moves this to a 2 Bizzareness rating. For those offended by vulgar singing boobs do not click on the video to the right. Obviously my PC days are behind me.

Staniel Cay Yacht Club
SCORE  10
Georgetown, Exumas
Reviewed Spring 2015

Picture
LOCATION
Paula made me do this review. I would not consider this a Tiki Bar as bar is in the restaurant building. Paula's point is that Staniel Cay Yacht Club is infamous. She has a point so I am doing this review. i will give them a rating of 2 Palm Trees due to their notoriety.

Picture
SERVICE
Service was very spotty. It varied from excellent to sucks. So I give them a very generous 2 Hula Girl rating.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Sands Light was always cold. They did not have Miller Lite and their beer was not cheap. Actually, nothing was chew there. 2 Beer rating.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
They serve a mean Pina Colada. It is definitely one of the best I have ever had. Forget the million calories and indulge. You will be glad you did. Given their Pina Coladas I have no choice but give them the max 4 Rumbabbas rating.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
Nothing bizarre here no matter what Paula says.......

Ty's Sunset Bar and Grill
SCORE  13
Farmers Cay, Exumas
Reviewed Spring 2015

Picture
LOCATION
I have found few Tiki Bars in the Exumas (or elsewhere for that matter) that are actually on a secluded beach. Being on a pristine secluded beach is how I visualize the perfect Tiki Bar. Ty's meets this expectation in spades. You will see from the pictures on the right that Ty's is on a beautiful secluded beach on the very secluded Farmers  Cay.

Picture
SERVICE
Ty's is a family affair. Everyone working there is part of Ty's family. We were treated as special guests. In the afternoon they grill out Ribs. The Ribs are very good and a must when you visit Ty's.

Picture
BEER-O-METER
Sands Light was cold. The cold beers hit the spot on a hot and sunny day. They did not carry Miller Lite.

Picture
RUMBABBAS
Standard island cocktails.

Picture
BIZARRENESS
There was a slight feel of Bizarreness at Ty's. I am not sure why, except at the back of the Tiki Bar is an active dirt runway for private planes visiting the island.  That probably deserves one Crazy Fish!
